STREET JIU JITSU

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU MINUS THE RULES

Many fights end up on the ground - and this is where Brazilian Jiu Jitsu becomes an essential component of your self-defence arsenal of skills!

We endeavour to avoid going to the ground on the street.  You could be executing a spectacular armbar, while your assailant's accomplice attacks you with a knife.  Also, Sports BJJ works in weight classes.  You can't explain to your attacker that he is out of your weight category.  This is why, at Storm Combat, we have taken BJJ and merged it with the principles of Krav Maga.  In other words, we don't fight fair.  We have to prevail.  We have to win.

The study of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu forms a standard and essential  part of our self-defence training and is automatically scheduled into your training timetable.  First we teach you BJJ by the rulebook, and then we teach you how to break all the rules!

There are no rules on the street.

YOU CAN'T TAP OUT ON THE STREET

The "no rules" version also includes the use of weapons as well as defending against weapons on the ground.

This is taught as a standard part of our self-defence specialisation program.

BJJ FOR FUN, HEALTH & FITNESS

You may never be attacked and have to use your BJJ skills for self-defence.  So, what do you achieve with all the hours spent training?   BJJ can be learned simply for recreational purposes, for health, fitness, stress relief, fun and social interaction.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu offers a full-body workout that improves your functional fitness and your endurance.  You will gain lean muscle mass, improve your strength, and flexibility, discover boosted energy levels and promote weight loss.  If you’ve had a bad day, BJJ offers a form of escapism. You’re only thinking about the present when you are training and because of this, BJJ is a very mindful activity.  Great for improving mood, managing your stress levels, fighting depression or anxiety and so much more..

BJJ is fun to learn. Unlike other martial arts that focus heavily on the physical aspects of training, BJJ is also considered a mental puzzle. Because of the problem-solving issues found in BJJ, it can be fun and addictive whilst training.  The mental side of BJJ never gets old.

On the social side, the comradery of BJJ is very strong and bonds can last for a lifetime.  You will make new friends and Storm Combat is a friendly, encouraging, fun-loving and close-knit combat tribe.
